Communities across northern Ontario are preparing spectacular celebrations for Canada Day fireworks on July 1. They will combine traditional fireworks, drone shows, live music, and family activities.
Timmins: Bigger Fireworks After Mixed Drone Reviews
Last year, Timmins replaced fireworks with a drone show for the first time. However, residents gave mixed reactions.
“We had a great turnout. However, the feedback from the community was not the greatest,” said Lacey Rigg, coordinator of meetings, conventions, and sports tourism with the City of Timmins.
Therefore, city council approved a $100,000 budget to bring back fireworks this year. The show will take place at Gillies Lake Conservation Area, in the heart of the city.
Sudbury: Drone Show Returns—With Fireworks Added
Sudbury officials said their drone show was well received in 2023, so they decided to bring it back. This time, it will be even better.
“This year, we will have a 300-drone show lasting 15 minutes,” said Mitch Seguin, director of operations.
The drones will synchronize with music. Following that, a fireworks display will light up the sky. Seguin believes this combination could create one of Canada’s longest Canada Day fireworks Ontario experiences.
Sault Ste. Marie: Sticking With Traditional Fireworks
In Sault Ste. Marie, fireworks remain the main attraction. They cost less and are easier to organize.
“A lot of people love the bangs, love the loudness, and the kids love it,” said Rick Borean, supervisor of community services.
Organizing a drone show here proves difficult. The city lies in restricted airspace near the U.S. border, which limits drone use.
North Bay: Centennial Celebrations with Fireworks and Drones
North Bay will also feature fireworks on Canada Day. Moreover, the city plans multiple drone shows later this summer to celebrate its centennial.
“We have a lot going on. For example, we have a family zone, live music, and a Centennial station with lots of activities,” said North Bay Coun. Justine Mallah.
Many community partners contribute to the celebrations. As a result, residents can expect plenty of fun for everyone.
What to Expect Across the Region
From Timmins to North Bay, Canada Day fireworks in Ontario will blend classic pyrotechnics with modern drone technology. This mix promises unforgettable nights under the summer sky.
Whether you love the loud booms of fireworks or the high-tech choreography of drones, northern Ontario’s cities will deliver memorable celebrations.
