Elections Canada Fixing B.C. Voter Cards Sent 90km Away

Elections Canada fixing B.C. voter cards after several Revelstoke residents were mistakenly directed to vote 90 kilometres away in Trout Lake, prompting confusion and swift action ahead of the April 28 federal election in the Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies riding.

Voter Confusion in Revelstoke

In recent weeks, some voters in Revelstoke, British Columbia, reported receiving voter information cards that listed Trout Lake Community Hall—located nearly two hours away—as their designated polling station.

However, other residents received cards indicating the Revelstoke Community and Aquatic Centre as their correct voting location, causing inconsistency and uncertainty just days before the election.

NDP Candidate Confirms Error

Phaedra Idzan, the NDP candidate for the region, confirmed she raised the issue with Elections Canada after being contacted by concerned constituents.

“This issue was brought to my attention, and I forwarded it to Elections Canada,” Idzan told Black Press Media. “I was assured by Elections Canada that this issue would be resolved.”

Official Response and New Voting Cards

According to David Brooks-Hill, Area B Director for the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, Elections Canada “admitted the error” and stated that replacement cards were being mailed to affected voters.

Brooks-Hill also suggested that, despite the error, the Revelstoke Community and Aquatic Centre may accept votes from all local residents on election day.

Elections Canada confirmed it is investigating the misprint and ensuring that impacted voters are informed and able to vote locally on April 28.

Community Assurance Ahead of Voting Day

As Elections Canada fixes B.C. voter cards, local leaders and candidates are urging calm and encouraging all affected constituents to watch for new voter cards and verify their polling station. The situation highlights the importance of accurate communication in electoral logistics, especially in rural and mountainous communities like Revelstoke and its surrounding areas.

Elections Canada is expected to provide further guidance and clarification in the coming days.
