Canada Unveils 2026 Olympic Women’s Hockey Roster

Hockey Canada has named its 23-player women’s hockey roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The team features 16 gold medalists from the 2022 Beijing Games. Additionally, seven players will make their Olympic debut. Captain Marie-Philip Poulin will compete at her fifth Games, leading the squad’s gold medal defense.

Roster Composition and Key Players

The team includes three goaltenders, seven defenders, and thirteen forwards. Veteran goalies Ann-Renée Desbiens and Emerance Maschmeyer return. They are joined by first-time Olympian Kayle Osborne. On defense, stalwarts like Renata Fast and Jocelyne Larocque bring experience. Rookie Sophie Jaques also joins the blue line. The forward group is deep with stars like Sarah Fillier, Natalie Spooner, and Brianne Jenner.

Leadership and Selection Process

General Manager Gina Kingsbury and Head Coach Troy Ryan led the selection. They narrowed the group from 30 training camp players. Kingsbury said the choices were difficult. She expressed confidence in the team’s pride and passion. Notably, 20 roster players won silver at the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship.

Canada’s women’s hockey team has a storied Olympic history. It won gold in 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. The team also earned silver in 1998 and 2018. The women’s hockey tournament runs from February 5 to 19, 2026 in Milan. Canada is in Group A with the USA, Czechia, Finland, and Switzerland. Canada opens against Finland on February 5. Then, they face Switzerland, Czechia, and the rival United States.
