Hunter Biden has publicly criticized George Clooney after the actor questioned his father’s mental fitness during the 2024 U.S. presidential race. Clooney’s comments, made after meeting Joe Biden at a fundraising event, led to the former president’s decision to step aside from the race, giving way to Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a fiery interview with Channel 5, Hunter Biden accused Clooney of exaggerating his father’s frailty. The younger Biden was particularly vocal about Clooney’s intervention in the election, calling it a public attack on a sitting president. He also slammed Clooney’s comments in an article titled “I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee,” published in The New York Times.
Clooney’s article had highlighted concerns over Biden’s debate performance against Donald Trump, particularly a moment when the president struggled with his speech. Clooney suggested that Biden’s frailty could harm the Democratic chances in November.
In response, Hunter Biden dismissed these claims, attributing his father’s debate issues to a grueling travel schedule and Ambien use. “He’s not the same man you saw at the debate,” Hunter said, citing the effects of the medication on his father’s performance.
Hunter Biden went on to accuse Clooney of ulterior motives, suggesting the actor’s actions may have been linked to his disagreement with Joe Biden’s stance on Israel. This comes after Amal Clooney, George’s wife, advocated for an International Criminal Court arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—a move the president opposed.
In an expletive-laden tirade, Hunter Biden questioned Clooney’s authority to influence the race, saying,
“What do you have to do with anything? Why should I listen to you?”
This public spat has added to the growing tensions within the Democratic Party, especially following the contentious exit of Joe Biden from the race. After Joe Biden’s withdrawal, Kamala Harris ultimately secured the nomination, but Republican candidate Donald Trump triumphed in the election.
Hunter Biden, who has been a central figure in numerous political controversies, also defended his limited involvement in the White House towards the end of his father’s presidency. He pointed out that reports of his influence in government decisions were exaggerated, stating he had spent minimal time at the White House during his father’s final months in office.
